I'm generally a stickler for writing my monthly blog on the last Thursday of every month and that was my intention yesterday.
However, I found that I just didn't want to try to be clever, funny or even friendly. There was a great deal of unexpected sadness in our home yesterday.
One week ago today we invited a six week old kitten to be a part of our family.
I have to confess that I much prefer dogs to cats and will generally find a way to speak of felines much like a child will speak of a snobby great aunt whose fabric covered furniture is off limits for sitting.
A few days ago we discovered that our new kitty Polly came to us with fleas. We bathed her, combed out all the bugs and the poor little thing looked like a drowned rat.
For some reason Polly decided that she would not leave the comfort of my arms until she was dry. In those 90 minutes the darn cat won my heart.
Two days ago Polly visited the vets office and we learned that Polly had worms and was both dehydrated and malnourished. We were told to keep her warm and give her antibiotics. My wife Jennie nursed Polly to wellness by feeding her with a syringe.
Yesterday while I was working on my monthly blog, Jennie walked into my office with tears holding our Polly. "Eric, I think she's gone."
