The unasked question

My adorable 2-1/2 year old daughter Piper is such a happy little girl.  Except when she is not.

Usually the breakdown into a whiny tantrum happens when she is deprived a life necessity like Elmo, an iPad or, God forbid, a pack of chewy fruit snacks.

It occurred to me during one such episode that the word "whiny" sounds an awful lot like "Why Me?" and there are times I find myself moaning this phrase over matters considerably less important than furry, lovable Sesame Street characters.

What stops us from asking the opposite question?

"Why NOT Me?"

Consider a handful of terrible truths:

29.8 million people live in slavery and 60,000 of these are in the United States

783 million people do not have access to clean water and this will kill 7 million people annually.

842 million people suffer from hunger and it will kill 2.6 million annually.

1 billion children live in countries affected by armed conflict.

2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation.

"Why NOT Me?"

Why not us?

Happy Thanksgiving.
