Can one small business really attack the global water crisis?

I've started writing this on about five different occasions, and after a sentence or two I end up pounding on my backspace button because I'm not at all pleased with what is coming out of my fingers. I want to blame it on writer's block but that's not the case. I am keenly aware that life has me a bit more overwhelmed than usual.

However, I was finally inspired to the point of tears and I'm afraid I may be late in telling you about this.

Did you know that a well-known retailer that I don't like to talk about had an "American Idol"-like competition called Get on the Shelf? Ten entrepreneurs were selected to try to win the opportunity to have their unique product stocked all across the country on the shelves of this retail giant.

The winner of this competition is an old friend of mine. I was honored to be the best man in his wedding many years ago. His company is called Humankind Water. What makes his bottled water company unique is that 100% of the company's net profits are donated to end a crisis that kills more children each day than AIDS, Malaria, Measles and Warfare COMBINED.

No matter how you feel about competitions, companies like Humankind Water can't help but make one ask, "How can my small business make an enormous difference in the world?"
